This tour has been designed for the wild at heart although still suitable for both young and old. We spend 7 days sampling some of the most exciting activities South Africa has to offer. The tour takes place in the province of Kwa Zulu Natal on South Africa’s east coast. Known as South Africa’s ‘Play Ground’ and rightly so; with beach, bush and mountains all within a short drive of each other. Over the next few days you will travel throughout this ‘play ground’ participating in some blood pumping activities, from the more gentle mountain biking and canoeing to the extreme bridge jump we guarantee you will leave exhilarated.
Day 1

Pick up from Durban International airport and drive 1 hour down the coast to the Umtumvuna River Gorge and nature reserve. This southernmost nature reserve in KwaZulu-Natal is a botanical paradise consisting of an interesting stretch of riverine forest and steep rocky cliffs. Bordering the Umtamvuna River, the 3 247 hectare reserve boasts a fine display of flowers in springtime. Both the Cape vulture and fish eagle breed in the reserve and 250 other bird species have been recorded. Bushbuck, serval, baboon, samango monkeys, blue and grey duiker and common reedbuck occur in the reserve.
Check in on arrival and have a relaxing afternoon because from here the heat is on! You can take a stroll in the reserve or take a walk down to the river. Welcome drinks and snacks will be served at the river at sunset before having supper back at the B&B.
Accommodation:
You will be accommodated at Vuna Valley Venture a beautiful B & B set into the hillside of the gorge, a mere 100 meters from the nature reserve and river.
Day 2

We start off slow today and as the tour continues things start to race along. Take a small hike through the gorge reserve; relax as the beauty of Africa gets hold of your soul. On your return you will be greeted by the smell of a cooking breakfast on the banks of the Umtumvuna River. Take the rest of the day to explore your surroundings or just chill by the river. That afternoon you will take a mountain bike ride around the top of the gorge stopping periodically to take in the view and rest, before ending at the deck to watch the sunset. Dinner will be served back at Vuna Valley out on the balcony.

Day 3

After breakfast go out on the water for a canoe paddle up stream, listen to the birds as their calls echo off the towering cliffs above you. It’s a more relaxed paddle on the way back as you simply drift with the current and take in the wonder of your surroundings. That afternoon we travel once again to the top of the gorge where you will get the chance to test your driving skills in the dirt-buggy racing carts. This adrenaline pumping activity will leave you buzzing all night. Supper will be back at Vuna, followed by a trip to the Wild Coast Sun Casino and Resort for some evening fun. (Own expense)

Day 4

After breakfast we leave Umtumvuna and make our way north to the Tugela River Valley, but not before stopping off at Oribi Gorge to brave the highest bridge swing in the world. Oribi Gorge is situated along the spectacular forest-cloaked ravine of the Mzimkulwana River. Oribi is the eastern gorge of two gorges that cuts through the Oribi Flats (flat sugarcane farmlands), southern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The western gorge was formed by the Mzimkulu River. At the base of the cliffs of both gorges there are rocks over 1000 million years old while the cliffs themselves are formed from sandstone deposited about 365 million years ago. Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve is situated in the Oribi Gorge, which is approximately 27 km long, 4 km wide (widest point) and 400 m deep. This is round about where you will hurl yourself over the edge suspended by a cable as you accelerate to 100km/h in just 7 seconds! Of course this is optional, we won’t force anybody to do anything, what we can say is you will regret it forever if you don’t…………..

Then it’s on to Zingela, probably the most amazing place on the planet. You’ll be transferred in 4 by 4 over a small mountain range and into the Tugela River Valley, say goodbye to civilization as you descend into the valley which is a wilderness area. Meaning all the animals and wildlife found there is naturally occurring, no fences keep them there they have moved to this area to escape the presence of man!
Accommodation:
Zingela River Lodge, you will not be staying in a chalet, rondavel or tent. Each en-suite design is unique and has been built in unity with its immediate environment. River stone, reed and canvas have been used as building materials. The units are each uniquely built into the rock face to create an experience like no other! Yet even with this rustic concept the camp was awarded 5 stars by the Getaway Travel Magazine.
Day 5

Wake up in adventure paradise! Make your way to breakfast at the outdoor dining area on the banks of the mighty Tugela River and check the rapids for your day’s activity. White water rafting will only be available during the rainy season, mainly between November to April. If water levels are not adequate for this activity it will be substituted for another. You can choose between horse riding, abseiling, fly fishing, canoeing or a game drive as substitute activities. That evening gather under the stars for another fabulous bush dinner and indulge in some star gazing afterwards.

Day 6

Wake up to the now familiar and soothing sound of the river as it makes its way past your camp. Today you will start out with a game walk up river while your experienced guide points out the footprints of all the animals that came past the night before. You’ll have a chance to see giraffe, antelope, warthogs, baboons and many more, as well as an array of birds. After lunch you’ll climb the cliff face and zip-slide back down to the water’s edge! That night gather round the camp fire to tell the many stories of your South African adventure.
