Being out of the country for 24 years made it very difficult for my wife and I to try find out about booking a Kruger Park trip to South Africa from the other side of the world. Finaly we found a company called Endless Summer Tours who basically tailored a custom tour around our needs, schedule and budget. We were picked up by our Tour Guide Rhys Dawkins from the JNB Airport and wisked away towards our destination to the Northern part of the country passing by the most amazing scenery you have ever seen. We stopped for lunch in Nelspruit for supplies and of course Castle lagers and biltong for the 3 day adventure. We arrived at the Sabie Park Guest house not knowing what to expect, but as we entered the private reserve and wound our way through the african bushveld made me realise I was truely home again after being away for so long. Seeing Zebra and Giraffe walking in front of you as you entered into the guest house property. The house was spacious and Rhys went out of his way to treat us like family. Woke us up with coffee every morning. Then we headed out towards the Kruger Park which borders the Sabie Park. He cooked breakfast for us every morning at a different rest camp within the park, he knew exactly what he was doing as all the places he chose were stunning views of the Kruger Park. His knowledge of the Fauna Flora and the different animals and birds was very impressive, he seemed to be enjoying himself and getting just as excited as we were. Dinners were a Braai prepared completely by our host Rhys who made the best chow! We did a night walk after dinner looking for bush babies. Our time to leave came by so fast as we had the most amazing time with Rhys and Kruger Park. One last walk around the house found a mother and baby giraffe feeding in the trees was a perfect way to remember our adventure.. Thanks again Rhys for making our Kruger Park trip the best time we could ever have had.. Bernard and Argie Samra Santa Ana California..

Umtumvuna Gorge

umtumvuna2

This reserve offers magnificent views over the river gorge and includes many very rare species of plants. The walks are the most rewarding of the entire South coast.  More than 28kms of river frontage are compressed into the 19 kms of the reserve. There are coastal forests, riverine forest, sheer rock faces more than 240m high above the river and the wild flowers in the higher regions offer a never ending change of colour as the season’s progress.

This small reserve is well worth a day’s visit.  There is no accommodation but there is a picnic site near the reserve office. The name of the reserve is taken from that of the river the ‘reaper of mouthfuls’ due to its action whilst in flood.  There is a nesting colony of one hundred Cape Vultures, baboons, leopards and samango monkeys. Over 250 species of birds have been identified in the reserve.
